Livingston County Jail Roster

The Livingston County Jail Roster in Michigan is a public resource that allows anyone to check if a specific person is in custody. LivingstonCourt.us provides access to publicly available information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official website of the Livingston County Sheriff, by visiting the jail in person, or by calling the main line. The registry search allows you to find out the detainee's name, date of custody, charges, and custody status. The registry is maintained by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, and the data is updated periodically throughout the day.

Search Current Inmates in Livingston Jail

There are several ways to find out if a person is currently held in the county jail.

Online Search

  1. Visit LivingstonCourt.us to search for publicly available court and arrest information.
  2. To check a criminal history at the state level, use the ICHAT system by Michigan State Police — it contains public criminal records.
  3. If the person was sentenced to imprisonment in a state prison, the search can be performed through the Offender Tracking Information System (OTIS). Note: OTIS does not contain data on individuals held only in county jails.
  4. County court cases are available through MiCOURT Case Search, and the schedule of hearings is on the Livingston County Docket page.

You will need the detainee's full legal name for the search. The booking number speeds up the process but is not mandatory. Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public registry.

By Phone or In Person

Call the jail's main line or contact the sheriff's dispatch service (non-emergency). The operator can confirm if a specific person is in custody if you provide the full name and date of birth. You can also visit the jail in person — the information window in the lobby is open during business hours.

Individuals detained by local police, such as the Brighton Police Department, are held temporarily and then transported to the county jail in Howell for official booking.

Find Livingston Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created every time a person is officially processed into the jail. It is the first document that records the fact of detention.

A typical record includes:

  • Booking number
  • Date and time of booking
  • Full name of the detainee and date of birth
  • Charges
  • Arresting agency (sheriff, city police, state police)
  • Bail amount, if set

Some of this data automatically enters the public registry. If you need more detailed information — such as a copy of the arrest report or a full list of charges — submit a request according to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. Copies may incur a fee according to current rates.

To check a criminal history at the state level, the ICHAT system supported by Michigan State Police is used. It will show public records of arrests and convictions throughout the state, not just in one county.

Search the Livingston Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The registry supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

Enter the last name in the search field. Adding the first name will narrow the results if the last name is common — for example, Smith or Johnson. A few practical tips:

  • Check the spelling: one extra letter can completely hide the record.
  • If the system allows partial search, try entering only the first few letters of the last name.
  • Use the browser's Ctrl+F function (or Cmd+F on Mac) if the registry is displayed as a full list without a separate search field.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is a unique identifier assigned during processing. It provides an exact result without the risk of confusion with namesakes. Usually, this number is communicated to the detainee or their relatives during booking.

If the Search Yields No Results

  1. The person may have already been released — the registry only displays those in custody at the time of the request.
  2. Processing is not yet complete — several hours may pass between the actual arrest and the appearance of the record in the system.
  3. The name is recorded differently — try spelling variations or contact the jail by phone.
  4. If the person was transferred to a state facility, search through OTIS.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Livingston

The inmate registry is updated periodically throughout the day, but it is not a real-time system. Between the moment of arrest and the appearance of the record on the site, it usually takes from one to several hours — depending on staff workload and time of day.

Main limitations to be aware of:

  • Delay in processing. If the arrest occurred late at night or on weekends, the record may appear only the next morning.
  • Disappearance after release. When a person is released on bail or by court decision, their record is removed from the current registry. The registry is not an archive of all past detentions.
  • Minors. Records of individuals under 18 are not published.
  • Federal detainees. If a person is held under a federal warrant, the information may not appear in the county registry.

To obtain historical data — for example, arrest records from several years ago — submit a FOIA request to the county sheriff. If a criminal record has been expunged under Michigan law, it will not appear in the registry or the ICHAT system.

The registry is a tool for checking the current custody status. It does not replace official court documents, which are available through the Michigan Courts portal.
